It’s my Bloggiversary and a Video for Halloween

It’s Halloween tomorrow – oooh, spooky – so here’s a video that’s been passed round Facebook and Twitter today. It’s actually a public information film, but is probably scarier than most full-length, hack-n-slash, flesh eating zombie flicks. Watching it again, I’m thinking the haircuts and clothes are even scarier than the weird, hooded figure. Ah, pity the poor souls who were children in the 70s, they’re doomed to a life of embarrassment every time the family photo album comes out.

Before I go – five years ago today I published the second post* on this blog – the first was on the 24th, but it just said ‘test’, so doesn’t really count. Anyhoo, my blog is now five whole years old. If it was a person, it would be tying it’s own shoelaces and going to school. Aaw, little blogs grow up so quickly. It won’t be long before it’s rebelling by refusing to publish new posts, only displaying emo tracks in my LastFM chart  and linking itself to unsavoury blogs.

*If you’d like to see the second post, it’s here – must have taken me hours to write it.

I appreciate you dropping by,
Please leave a comment, don’t be shy

  • Congratulations, Kate, for five years of this blog. I think we "met" through St Jude sometime in early 2006, way before there were Books of Faces and tweeting and what have you. And as long as you continue to blog once in a while, I'll continue to read you once in a while.
  • Thank you Charlie :-) I think that is how we met; that's nearly 4 years ago, wow! That's a long time. And yes, well before Books of Faces lol Just think, back then what we were doing was all radical and new, we were pioneers!

I wish I still updated as often I used to :-( I've always enjoyed posting here, not least because I have such wonderful readers (no, I'm not sucking up, readers are a bit like children; you look at other peoples and think how much better yours are). Trouble is, now I blog for a living I find I've used my daily word allowance up by 5pm. I'm reduced to saying 'how nice' and 'well done' on Twitter. No plans to give up though, I just renewed the hosting for another two years, so you're stuck with me until at least 2011
  • The only thing I don't miss from your older blogging days is your blue avatar. To be truthful, it looked like a mugshot taken at the police station for drunken writing. Your new one is much more flattering.
  • Thank you, I think ... it wasn't drunken writing, it was drunken tweeting: I told @courtneylove that she looked like Mr Potato Head in drag. Actually, I didn't, but she does.
  • congrats Kate. how many physical blogs is it?
  • congrats Kate. how many physical blogs is it?
  • Thanks Pete :-) Umm, not sure how many posts ... I'd guess around 600.

  • It sure would be nice if Disqus had a trashcan for idiots like moi because I'd climb right in and close the lid.
  • The stereo reply? I don't think it's you, the same thing has happened to Pete, it does it sometimes.
  • God! That's an awful video Kate...well chosen :-)

Happy Blogday to you, happy Blogday to you...that's pretty big Kate...you must be roolly old? :-)

I would imagine the best you can do is educate your blog about 'blogtraception' and hope that it's liaisons with unsavoury blogs don't turn into permalinks or worse yet...trackbacks!

It reminds me of a quote from an old book called 'Knots' by pshychiatrist R.D. Laing:

Paraphrasing a bit perhaps, as I haven't looked it up:

"A son should respect his father. He shouldn't be forced to, it should come naturally...that's what I've taught my son anyway."

Well done Kate...I look forward to the next 600 :-)

    Cheers

  • The video used to be shown at teatime, just after the childrens' programmes had finished, and just before the smaller ones went to bed. There were some evil people working at the BBC in those days.

    Like the quote :-)
  • Well done Kate - 5 years pretty good! I'll wish you a Happy Birthday for Thursday, always remember your day, something to do with "gunpowder treason and plot"!................Have a good one. CG
  • Thank you :-) Yes, my b'day is an easy one to remember, no one has any excuse for forgetting it. Good old Guy lol
  • Congratulations and Happy Birthday Kate :)
  • Thanks Hesham :-)
  • A belated Happy 5th Anniversary, Kate, on your ITISI (unless you're mistaken) blogging extravaganza. In that time, I'm sure you had a whirlwind of thoughts to express and images to convey, expressed and conveyed in your own inimitable fashion; delightful material for readers whether they run, ponder,or desire to have you assume government office. I haven't been commenting lately but Steffie and I have been reading your sundry verbal outpourings.

Hope to see you at it for another five years...if you could stand it so could we.

All the Best. Your Friends From Across the Sea (sometimes beneath it),

    Michael & Steffie
  • Thank you :-) If you can stand it, I'd be very remiss not to keep going lol You know, I should assume government office; for my first act I'd introduce a tax on the gratuitous use of the phrases 'Political Correctness gone mad', 'human rights, what about my human rights?' and 'health and safety, who needs that?'

Under the sea? Have you taken up diving?

That is an eerie little video!

Congrats on 5 years of blogging - mine is just over 3 years now so a little way to go yet :)
  • Three years is brilliant! Most people give up after a few weeks.
